It’s clearly a popular choice with the artists too, as this festival attracts no end of big names, with this year’s headliners including Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Kings of Leon, Jess Glynne, Franz Ferdinand and George Ezra.

Sziget Festival

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Dates: Mid-August

Whether you’re looking to camp, or to stay right in the heart of Budapest with its iconic architecture, ruin bars and famous thermal baths, all roads lead to Óbudai Island and its festival full of a diverse range of music, as well as many arts displays and craft workshops.

Offering performances across seven days, this is a festival that could turn into a full holiday, with artists range from Ed Sheeran to The 1975, James Blake to Florence & The Machine and Fall Out Boy to Twenty One Pilots, to name just a few of the many stellar names on show.

Ultra Europe

Location: Split, Croatia

Dates: Mid-July

Anyone looking to jet off to an emerging European destination with sunshine, blue skies and beautiful beaches would do well to consider Croatia, and anyone doing so with stag weekend music festival plans in mind couldn’t ask for much more than Ultra Europe. Fronted by some of the biggest names in EDM and house, this festival promises to be party central.

They attract a host of major names from the electronic and dance music worlds, with this year’s event featuring heavyweights such as Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Carl Cox and Armin van Buuren, as well as a DJ Set from The Chainsmokers. There’s flexibility in terms of budget too, with accommodation from hostels to apartments – or if you’re going all out, even a week on a yacht! – so you’re sure to find your ideal fit.

Location: Petrovaradin Fortress, Serbia

Dates: Early July

Winner of the EFA’s Best Major Festival award in both 2013 and 2017, this year’s festival was headlined by legendary British band The Cure, with a DJ set from Carl Cox and notable performances from UK grime artist Skepta and US duo The Chainsmokers.

Set in the striking surroundings of the Petrovaradin Fortress, located on the right bank of the Danube River, you’ll be in for a truly unique experience and fairly reasonable prices as far as festivals go. Bestival

Location: The Isle of Wight

Dates: Early September

The festival season across Europe draws to a close with Bestival. This is an ideal option for those whose stag do plans fall outside of the peak summer dates. The festival features a unique fancy dress theme which differs each and every year. Bestival is also known for being about much more than just the music, with a strong offering in terms of comedy, theatre, poetry, fitness groups and many other options.

In terms of the music this year, the festival offers current pop favourites Nile Rodgers, Lewis Capaldi and Jess Glynne, classic bands such as The Human League, Sister Sledge and The Wailers, and a heavy dose of cheese in the form of East 17 and Vengaboys. There’s even an appearance from Mr Motivator.
